“Everything we do as humans is determined by a route, whether it’s cerebral or physical. Paths – or ways – are the vehicle we as a species use to connect and survive.” Matt Writtle
Pathways is a photographic journey along one of Britain’s oldest roads: The Ridgeway National Trail.
Stretching 87-miles across a chalk escarpment from Avebury in Wiltshire to Ivinghoe Beacon in Buckinghamshire, Matt Writtle has photographed 25 locations, from the ground and the air, that document the past, present and future legacy of this living heritage as it celebrates its 50th anniversary as a National Trail. The collection of black and white photographs are also installed as an outdoor exhibition at each location along the route.
